Children’s Hospital & Medical Center’s Infusion Center, located on the first floor of the Children’s Specialty Pediatric Center, provides infusions of chemotherapy and other drugs to hematology/oncology patients, as well as patients with other illnesses, in a centralized location. The center is staffed by nurses, a childcare partner and nurse practitioner.
Because children with cancer must often sit through hours of chemotherapy, the Infusion Center is equipped with comfortable recliners and offers games, televisions, DVDs and age-appropriate toys, as well as snacks and drinks. In addition, the clinic has three private infusion rooms for children who are sick or are immune-compromised. Child Life staff and volunteers are available at the center to accompany children through painful procedures and to keep them company during their infusions.
