Healing Environment
The Healing Environment
Program is coordinated through our board certified and
registered art therapist. This program promotes healing through the creative
arts. Art materials and activities are facilitated at bedside and in the
activity rooms to assist patients in coping with hospitalization and illness.
Other elements of the program are:
- Featured Artist
display in patient areas showcasing a patient and their artwork.
- Artwork from area students is featured in all public areas of the hospital. This
includes framed art, ceramic tile murals, and colorful tiles in each elevator
lobby. Each hospital floor features a specific theme, which is seen throughout
the areas in wall, ceiling and floor art. Each patient room contains a piece
of original artwork.
- Weekly art activity planned and facilitated by Joslyn
Art Museum called Art is Swell.
Omaha Theater Company for Young People comes twice a
month to provide storytelling and drama activities for patients.
Omaha Children’s Museum provides monthly creative
activities to patients.
Harp music is played on the patient floor on a
regular basis for patients, families and staff.
Periodic visits from other community art
organizations.
Art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in the making of art is healing and life enhancing.
