The Transition to Pediatric Nursing Program: Adult to Pediatric Nursing program is tailored to RNs who have worked a minimum of one year with the adult population. It is designed to teach you everything you need to know about becoming a pediatric nurse and ultimately culminates in eligibility for national certification as a pediatric nurse.
The Transition to Pediatric Nursing Program is presented four times per year:
Nurses must apply for and be hired into an open staff RN position in one of the following units who are participating in the Transition Program:
All experienced RNs with no prior pediatric nursing experience will automatically participate in the Transition Program as part of their unit-specific orientation. These nurses may be hired at any time and will participate in the next available transition course.
During the 12-month program, Transition Nurses will attend 52 hours of paid course work over the first month as well as unit-specific clinical orientation with a preceptor. These courses are designed to help you understand the differences between nursing care of adults and children. You will gain valuable knowledge and clinical experience in pediatric nursing. After completion of unit-specific orientation and Transition Program classes, individual cohorts of nurses in the program will continue to meet until the end of the first 12 months to provide support and answer questions. The experiences during the Transition to Pediatrics Program will culminate in eligibility for national certification as a pediatric nurse.
